A tablet that lives in the room, and translates it every day.
Paired once to one classroom, counter or meeting room. Run the lesson or meeting to every phone, or hold a conversation across the table in two languages.
Runs on a 10-inch Android tablet or an iPad.
A laptop and a volunteer work on Sunday. A classroom needs translation at 08:15, five days a week.
It belongs to the room, not to a person
Nobody signs in on it. The room keeps a permanent link and a printed QR code that work week after week.
Two big choices, in your own words
A school sees Lesson and Student or parent conversation. A municipality sees Meeting and Conversation with a resident.
Nothing personal on it
A tablet that goes missing is revoked from the console and stops working the next time it is opened.
One tap, and the room is on every phone.
Tap Lesson, pick the class, and the QR code fills the screen. Everyone in the room scans and gets voice or captions in their language on their own phone, in the browser, with no app.
Two people, two languages, one table.
A parent meeting, a resident at the counter, a visitor after the service. Three ways to run it, from the same station.
Shared tablet
The tablet lies flat between you, and each side reads the other's words in its own language.
Own phones
Each person scans a QR code with their own phone and listens or reads there, in the browser.
Wireless headsets
Up to three people at the table each wear a wireless headset, and each headset hears only its own language.
A medical, legal or contractual conversation still needs a qualified interpreter.
The rooms where language gets in the way every day.
The classroom
A preset per class, and pupils on their own phones or school iPads. Feide sign-in for Norwegian schools is being prepared.
The counter
A resident conversation at reception during the day, and the council meeting to every phone in the evening.
The foyer
The service to every phone on Sunday, and the conversation with a visitor at the door afterwards.
What is in the box, in plain terms.
A station from us — the tablet and its stand, set up for the room — costs NOK 5,000 (USD 500 / EUR 459) per station excluding VAT, paid once, and it is yours to keep with a two-year warranty. The software runs on the organization plan you already have, in the same language-hours as every other session.
The tablet and its stand
A 10-inch Android tablet, or an iPad you already own. The stand is made by us for it: upright at the front of the room for a lesson, flat on the table for a conversation.
The room microphone
A wireless clip-on microphone for a teacher or speaker who moves around the room, so the tablet can stay at the front. NOK 1,500 (USD 150 / EUR 138), paid once.
Wireless headsets
One wireless USB headset per seat at the table, each hearing only its own language. NOK 2,500 (USD 250 / EUR 229) per headset, paid once, and we confirm they work with your station before shipping.
Station questions.
Can we use a tablet we already have?
Yes — a 10-inch Android tablet or an iPad, with nothing to buy from us: it runs on your organization plan.
What does it cost?
The software is part of your organization plan and uses its language-hours: one per language, only while the microphone is on, nothing while paused. A station from us — the tablet and its stand — costs NOK 5,000 (USD 500 / EUR 459) per station excluding VAT, paid once, and it is yours to keep. Wireless headsets are NOK 2,500 (USD 250 / EUR 229) each and a room microphone NOK 1,500 (USD 150 / EUR 138), ordered together with a plan. See pricing.
Does it record?
Only if you switch recording on. It is a separate switch, off by default, and a school's default is live-only. Set a session to temporary and no transcript line is written to our database at all.
Does it need Wi-Fi?
Yes — the room's Wi-Fi. The phones need a connection too.
What happens to the equipment if we stop using Koine?
It stays yours. While you use Koine, the station opens straight into Koine and we keep it updated. Ask us any time and we release it as an ordinary tablet, and if Koine ever closes, we release every station first. We never lock equipment over an unpaid bill; only the translation service stops.
Can we rent a station instead of buying one?
Yes, on request. A managed station, which Koine owns, maintains and replaces when its tablet stops getting updates, is NOK 3,000 (USD 300 / EUR 270) a year excluding VAT, and a station can also be rented for a single event. Ask us.
